Power Outages

You all may have noticed that the power has been going out for just a few seconds, one or two times each day for the past couple of days. I've placed a couple of calls to NSTAR to find out why this is, but so far I haven't gotten any really satisfying answers.

This evening around 8:30 we had another one of these brief failures, so I went to talk to the crew on Freeport Street. It turns out that the work they're doing there has nothing to do with service in our neighborhood: they're replacing a cable running between two stations, and they're not switching our power on and off. The worker did share something interesting, that just before I showed up to talk to him he'd heard a report that a line went down in flames on Adams Street. He couldn't comment on the specifics of what's going on here, but his educated guess was that the line was failing slowly, and now that it's completely shot and being fixed, maybe our problems will go away.

I'm still chasing NSTAR down for some answers, but I wanted to share what I know with everybody.

Cheers,

Blip, 6/3 10:02 PM

I just called NSTAR following the second of the evening's power blips, and the first thing they did was play a recorded message stating that there's a line down on Adams Street that they're expecting to be working on through 11 PM.
